Ian Gorowa’s Zimbabwe side will have every reason to believe they can come out trumps in tonight’s 2014 Chan semi-final clash with Libya at the Free State Stadium. The Warriors booked their spot in the last four with a convincing 2-1 win over a strong Mali side, who were amongst the tournament favourites. The Zimbabweans will no doubt receive huge support in the stands in Bloemfontein, as they have in Cape Town, effectively turning this into a home tie for them. And having come this far, Gorowa feels his team now has a responsibility to the rest of southern Africa. “We made a little bit of history in our country in that this is the first time in an African competition that we have gone all the way to a semi-final,” he said. “I think that’s a great achievement for us. For raising the flag of the SADC (Southern African Development Community) nations. I think it’s an opportunity which we have cherished and grabbed. So I’m glad that the boys are getting there. We have always battled as a region, so at least here we are in the semi-finals.”
